Enabling work to be carried out safely

Health & Safety

Holy Covenant is firmly committed to a policy enabling all work — including work undertaken by volunteers — to be carried out safely, and with all possible measures taken to reduce risks to the health, safety and welfare of staff, volunteers and parishioners. Holy Covenant aims to comply with the Work Health and Safety Act (Work Health and Safety Act 2011) and any other relevant legislation, applicable codes of practice and Australian Standards.

The Holy Covenant Anglican Church has, after an enormous effort, drafted the document Holy Covenant, Jamison Work Health and Safety Policy in respect of its responsibility to deliver a safe working and participation environment for the members, workers and those who attend the Church’s activities. Included in the document are tables describing the implementation of this policy as well as details as to who is responsible for details of the implementation.

The framework of this document is determined by the existing Federal, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and NSW legislative frameworks as set out in the following legislation:

  1. Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Regulation 2012 (as amended 1 January 2016)
  2. Work Health and Safety Act 2011

The document also reflects the work and guidelines as produced by the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

While this document attempts to be as exhaustive as possible and reflects the law as at 30 May 2016 it is always possible that the contents of the document may need further work and interpretation. The Parish Council and Wardens welcome any comments that readers may have in respect of the document’s contents.
